Summary

Thu 23 Sep 10 7:30pm: Canberra Southern Cross Club Turner - 'The Bowlo' Monaro Folk Society Annual General Meeting

Details

The Monaro Folk Society is doing a great job of promoting “folk” in the ACT. The new MFS members that I have spoken to are loving it, having the time of their lives, and all because of the small army of MFS members that keep it all ticking over. The MFS Committee is the top policy and strategy committee of the society. If you have a commitment to ethics, truth and honesty and wish to build the society through shared experiences and positive outcomes then this is the place for you. We seek to be flexible and fair in all dealings and interactions, and are actively pursuing a dramatic increase in public awareness of and participation in the Monaro Folk Society.

The MFS Committee is run in a thoroughly democratic way, with an impartial chair, speakers for and against, and voting. It is responsible for a large decentralised enterprise and follows standard legal decision making practices. As well as being satisfying and fun, members can learn a tremendous amount about running a successful organisation and about all aspects of folk music, dance and culture.

A strong field of candidates is a healthy sign and sincerely welcome. I am sure we are all on the committee for altruistic reasons and warmly welcome all members that might like to step forward and offer to make their contribution to running the society next year.

New blood means fresh ideas and renewed vigour for the Monaro Folk Society, so what is stopping you from nominating at the AGM?

Whether or not you feel moved to lend a hand on the committee, another small but rewarding contribution that you can make is simply to attend the AGM on 23 September. See for yourself how the MFS is travelling, and appoint your new committee, in congenial surroundings with bar service available and complimentary hot nibblies. It’s been a great year, thanks to all the members that have made it such fun, and so satisfying. See you at the AGM!
